Waterways of Russia
Aug 30 – Sep 9, 2013
New for 2013!
Cruising between St. Petersburg and Moscow aboard the M.S. Volga Dream, the most deluxe ship on the Russian waterways, experience some of Russia’s greatest artistic, historical, and architectural treasures, along with several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Starting in St. Petersburg, you’ll tour the State Hermitage Museum, former palace of Catherine the Great, where you’ll view the 74 controversial masterpieces “lost” in a storeroom since World War II and unveiled in 1995. See the Church of the Transfiguration and its 22 cupolas built completely out wood (no nails) on Kizhi Island and in Goritsy, visit the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery where Vasily III was said to have prayed for an heir. Soon after, he fathered Ivan the Terrible. Yaroslavl and Uglich are among the “Golden Ring” cities on this trip, featuring unique 12th-18th centuries monuments of Russian architecture. On your last stop in Moscow, view the magnificently bejeweled Fabergé eggs at the Armory, Russia’s oldest museum, and feel a little closer to home.
Fee: Prices range from $4,295-$6,495, depending on choice of cabin. Airfare is not included but group air will be available.
