Studio School Faculty

Studio School Staff

Mary Holland is the Thomas C. Gordon, Jr., Director of the Studio School and a professional artist. She has a BFA from Syracuse University and an MFA in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Frank Saunders is the administrative assistant for the Studio School and a professional photographer and educator. He has a BFA in communication arts + design from VCU. 

Studio School Faculty

Jeffrey Allison is the Paul Mellon Collection Educator at VMFA and a professional photographer. He holds a BA in photography and film from Virginia Intermont College and an MFA in photography from VCU.

Jodi Bock is a professional yoga instructor and stained glass artist.

Sally Bowring is a professional artist and an adjunct instructor at VCU. She holds a BFA in painting from Goddard University and an MFA in painting from VCU.

Sally Brown is a professional interior designer and architecture critic.  She holds a BFA in interior design from VCU and an MA in architecture and design criticism from Parsons School of Design.

Sara Clark is a professional artist and adjunct instructor at VCU. She has a BFA in art history and an MFA in painting and printmaking from VCU.

Diana Detamore is a professional artist and educator.  She has an MFA in sculpture and a BFA in painting from VCU.

Karen Eide is a professional painter and educator. She has a BFA from VCU.

Joan Elliott is a professional painter. She holds a BFA in painting and printmaking from VCU.

Dawn Flores is a professional artist and writer. She studied art at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Loyola University in New Orleans. She holds a certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden.

Pam Fox is a professional artist and professor of photography at Hampden-Sydney College.  She has a BFA in communication arts + design and an MFA in photography from VCU.

Regula Franz is a professional photographer with an MFA in photography from VCU. She has photographed professionally around the world and has extensive experience in teaching and working with digital imaging and printing.

Steven Glass is the resident potter at VMFA, where he has taught since 1982. He has conducted pottery residencies in Great Britain and Korea and is a member of the board of Cub Creek Pottery Foundation.

Susan Hankla is a professional writer. She holds BA degrees in philosophy and English from Hollins College and an MA in creative writing from Brown University.

Kris Iden is a professional artist.  She holds BFA and MFA degrees in painting and printmaking from VCU.

  Douglas S. Jones is a professional writer and teacher who has written and seen produced over 30 plays. He has a BA from the University of Chicago and completed graduate work at the University of Virginia.

Aijung Kim is a professional artist and instructor with a BFA in printmaking from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Matt Lively is a professional artist with a BFA in sculpture from VCU. His paintings have been exhibited internationally and are in numerous corporate and private collections..

Chris Palmer is a professional artist and teacher. He has an MFA in painting and printmaking from VCU.

Marjorie Perrin is a professional painter and teacher. She has a four-year certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

 Steve Pittelkow is a professional artist and paper marbler who teaches workshops nationally.

 Justin Rice is a professional potter and co-founder of Oxide Pottery in Lynchburg, VA.  He has a BFA in drawing and printmaking from the Cleaveland Art Institute.

Alyssa C. Salomon is a professional artist who has been awarded two VMFA Fellowships for her photographic work. For 20 years, she has specialized in providing accounting and tax- and business-advisory services to those in the arts and entertainment industries.

Chuck Scalin is the former assistant chair of the Communication Arts + Design Department at VCU.  He holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Pratt Institute.

Georgianne Stinnett is a professional photographer and an instructor at the Maggie L. Walker Governors School. She has an MFA in photography from VCU.

 Susan Svendsen is a professional artist and educator.  She has a BS in art education from East Carolina University and a Masters equivalency in art/human relations from Syracuse University.

Mary Swezey is a professional textile artist and educator. She holds a BFA from VCU and an MFA in fibers from Arizona State University.

 Lynalise Woodlief is a VCU graduate with a BFA in craft and material studies.  She specializes in jewelry in her studio practice and props for film productions.
