Jan 25, 2013 – Jun 02, 2013The Fralin Museum of Art, UVA
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon's generous gifts to the Commonwealth of Virginia include French, British sporting, and American paintings and sculpture on display at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, as well as over a thousand prints and drawings. This exhibition of drawings and watercolors charts the history of works on paper in 19th and early 20th century France. It includes artists of the Romantic period, such great names as Delacroix, Gericault, and Ingres. The exhibition showcases a remarkable series of works by pre-Impressionist and Impressionist artists, including Boudin, Renoir, Degas, Morisot, and Pissarro demonstrating their facility as astute observers of modern life.
