Clothed in a robe of elegant realism, this standing apostle compares with many other Westphalia sculptures, the style of which was influenced by the Netherlandish Master of Rimini. The face shape and hair stylization are typical of representations of Saint Peter, one of Christ’s original disciples. This and other sculpted apostles would have been placed into a large altarpiece.
