This tin-glazed earthenware dish features a bust portrait of a young warrior with luxuriant locks wearing a large helmet with an upturned brim and stylized plume. In the dark background is a fantastic landscape featuring two hills, one covered with dwellings, along with the walls and parapets of the warrior’s present setting. The central pictorial representation is surrounded by an abstract pattern of fish-scale and acanthus motifs. The rich blue and yellow paint, which are difficult to fix in the kiln, are typical of earthenware produced in Deruta and add to the stunning quality of this dish.
