Known for her talent in bookbinding, Rose Adler also created furniture for the French fashion designer, art collector, and patron Jacques Doucet using rare materials in geometric patterns. For the top of this table, Adler created a fantasy cityscape of stairs, arches, and street lights using shagreen (sharkskin). This table appears prominently in a period photograph of Doucet’s house in Neuilly, a suburb of Paris. The collector displayed Gustave Miklos's rock crystal sculpture (85.329) on the table.
